Chapter 3
The Leper Bridge ~ continued from Chapter 3 | Go In Peace
Later that night the large Moab dressed in a black robe stood at the door of Jesse’s home, the rain and wind in his dark face, which was hidden by his hood.
David heard the knock and was quickly at the wooden door.
“Rough night for man and beast,” said the Moab as he wiped his forehead and peered behind David into the home. “Who is here?”
“Nobody.” “Hmmm.”
The Moab smiled a rough, toothless smile as he pushed past the boy into the front room of the house. “No father or mother.”
He looked around at the spartan room full of work and hunting tools. Goats “baaahed” in the back room.
“I am here.”
“Yes you are, child.” The Moab shook his wet robe and stroked his rough face. “Yes you are.”
Outside the wind picked up and the rain splattered onto the dirty roads that led through the village and up to the high country where lions and bears roamed.

The priest saw only the cave dwellers writing late into the after- noon where the rocky, barren cliffs surrounding the city of Kir lay bare to the winds.
“Out of the house of Jacob will come the one to unite them,” the high priest said.
“What must we do?” the Moab asked.
The high priest’s eyes were open wide as he saw his visions.
“In Bethlehem, he is born.”
“And so?”
“Kill him.”
The rain beat against the house. Suddenly a loud, guttural scream rang out. The Moab priest grabbed a knife from his robe and turned.
Nitzevet charged the Moab, her face etched with grim determination, her eyes wild. With the quickness of a cat she leapt at him.
The sheep and goats in the back room rustled in their pen and cried out in alarm. David slipped into the corner and hid under a workbench, his eyes wide with fright.
Nitzevet raised her hand and cut the Moab’s arm with her knife. He pushed her as they fell and she was flung against the lime plaster wall. She growled as she hit the earth floor but stood up quickly. The Moab priest turned toward her and let his wet robe fall to the ground.
