We Are Living In Very Interesting Times!
We are living in very interesting times, indeed!
In the history of humanity, it’s not the first interesting time nor will it be the last.
“May you live in interesting times,” supposedly an English expression that purports to be a translation of a traditional Chinese curse. It seems that times of trouble are interesting where times of peace are perhaps boring.
When, however, has the world not been plagued with doubt and fear?
The world has always been a great big ball of confusion, whether it was three thousand years ago or today in the Twenty-First Century, chaos is the norm.
In today’s world, we balk at wearing masks when in public: years before that we argued against wearing seat belts. We had and still have the right to kill ourselves and we were and are bound and determined to exercise that right!
We The People…
We The People, want to do whatever we want.
Long ago, we had the same issues: an angry God brought laws down for the very same reason. Oftentimes that caused a burning conflict between different groups and individuals. Doubt and fear in one group spilled over to another group and either war or disruption in society came about.
We The People, would find issues to argue and fight over: diminishing resources, lands, hunting grounds, water, seatbelts, and masks. The Hatfields and McCoys fought over family and personal issues.
In The Time of David…
The Hebrews and Philistines fought over land, natural resources, and women. The Twelve Tribes fought among themselves when they had no other enemies to challenge.
In 2020…
Will we create our own ball of confusion and then wonder why the world is burning?
Why do we have such turmoil?
Why is there so much civil unrest?
What sense can we make of all of this?
The confusion we are now experiencing is the biggest question of all for individuals and our global society!
I’m sure we are all asking the same questions:
What is my place in all of this?
What is my purpose?
We can choose to flame the fires of chaos by protesting in the streets, and rage at the unjust world, or we can choose to change laws that are unjust.
We can be a spokesperson for a special interest group or we can do nothing and simply complain about the world.
Simply put, we can pour gasoline on the fire, or try to mitigate the burning.
However, the fire will continue regardless of what we do.
The World is always burning.
As an individual, we can make a difference. Our own actions can either imitate the chaos around us or bring a level of calm.
We all have a choice!
What will you choose?
Robert
