The Messenger | Oracle of Delphi
In ancient Greece, the most powerful individual was not a man. It was neither Aristotle, Plato or Alexander the Great who hailed from Macedonia.
It was rather, a group of young women who combined was known as the “Oracle of Delphi” and those august men named above would routinely travel to Delphi seeking their fate in the caves of that rocky island.

The Leper Messiah continues that grand tradition in that the most powerful individual in the book is a woman, the Rose, and she holds sway over what happens both in the west and the east, and if you so much as look at her without being asked, you will be blinded.
She haunts the desert world and also dictates what will happen in great battles that take place in the west, and moves men around like so many pieces on a chessboard.
David’s mother can see farther than any man, knows what her son will become, and so we see in that world within the book women hold sway over the coming and goings of men.
Women disguise themselves as lesser beings only to show their true power in The Leper Messiah.
In the opening chapter, the Mistress of magic pretends to be a poor harlot until she has had enough of the Moab priest.
Excerpt from The Leper Messiah:
-
The sad mother became a fiery vision. Her hair fell around her shoulders, her face glowed and precious jewels shimmer on her neck. She cradled seven scorpions in her hand. “False priest,” she spat out as she bit off the head of one scorpion.
“I am the mystical rose, mother of Nitzevet, and the light of the burning bush, who will see all and will not let spirits nor demons harm thee.”
Nitzevet, charged the Moab, her face etched with grim determination, her eyes wild with rage. With the quickness of a cat, she leaped at him – knife in hand.
The Moab priest pushed her away and she was flung against the lime plaster wall. She growled as she hit the floor but stood up quickly. Her saliva fell to the floor as she bared her teeth.
“Give him to me,” the Moab breathed. “I’ll spare you.
”
Young David was transfixed and crouched under a wooden bench.
Nitzevet, combed back her long hair, crouched low and charged once again…
Women are powerful creatures who understand what David is and protect him with their lives!
